System Worth Saving (SWS)
About System Worth Saving
System Worth Saving (SWS) reflects The American Legion’s long-standing commitment to ensuring high-quality care within the Department of Veterans Affairs health-care system. Launched in 2003 after Past National Commander Ronald F. Conley’s nationwide visits to VA medical centers, the initiative affirmed that despite challenges and national scheduling scandals, VA remains a system worth preserving, strengthening, and advocating for.
Each year, members of the Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Commission visit VA medical centers and Regional Offices across the country. During these visits, they speak directly with veterans, families, administrators, and employees to identify successes and address ongoing concerns. Their findings are compiled into an annual System Worth Saving report, which is shared with VA leadership, Congress, and the White House. With more than 150 commission members involved, the program underscores The American Legion’s dedication to accountability and continuous improvement in veterans’ care.
COMING SOON: 2025 System Worth Saving Reports will be added in Spring 2026.
